What is Study Gym?
Study Gym courses are designed to encourage students of any age to develop the understanding and skills necessary to comprehend and learn information, to research for further information and, in short, to become successful independent learners.

What is ELLI?

ELLI is the acronym for Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory which has been developed by the Graduate School of Education at Bristol University.

What is an Effective lifelong Learning Inventory?

Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory (ELLI) is an initial diagnostic tool that provides evidence on how people learn. This gives the student an insight into the possible areas of difficulties that they should concentrate on for developing their effective learning power.

What is Learning Power?

It is a complex term developed by the Bristol research group to summarise a person’s awareness of their ability to learn.  It is increased and enhanced by using the 7 dimensions of learning as identified by the Bristol research group. If one or more aspect is not being used effectively the ability to learn is impaired. (For further details see Background page.)

How long is the
Study Gym Course?

The
Study Gym Course is designed on a personal basis and can last from 2 to 8 weeks.

Is
Study Gym for Children or Adults?

Study Gym
is for students of any age who wish to improve and change how they learn.

Do I need to bring my own work with me?

The
Study Gym Course is most effective when individual students bring their own assignments to be included in learning discussions.

How will it help with assignments?

Study Gym
will help to identify areas where students are experiencing difficulties and help them overcome the problems.

Can everyone benefit from
Study Gym?

Anyone who is interested in and concerned about their learning will benefit from a course of
Study Gym.

Will I be on my own or in a group?

The
Study Gym course may be taken individually or can consist of group learning with a maximum of 4 learners. The educational consultant will support the individual learner and at the same time encourage him/her to participate in additional group work to encourage the development of confidence and to give mutual support.
